U.S. consumer sentiment fell in early March, reaching a score of 55.5 versus 56.6 in February, per University of Michigan data. “Interviews completed prior to the military action in Iran showed an improvement in sentiment from last month, but lower readings seen during the nine days thereafter completely erased those initial gains,” said Joanne Hsu, director of the university’s Survey of Consumers (via Chain Store Age).
Peloton has launched its Commercial Series, an assortment of bike and treadmill products designed for commercial gyms. “I’ve had the chance of speaking with the CEOs of a number of gyms, gym operators or big-box operators over the last year. The one brand their members asked for, and therefore that they are asking for it, ‘Find a way to get me Peloton equipment,’” CEO Peter Stern said (via CNBC).
Unilever is apparently in talks around selling its food business to McCormick. Brands on the table which could be headed to McCormick include Hellman’s, Marmite, and Knorr (via MarketWatch).
Sporting goods sales stateside fell by 9% in the three-month period concluding in January 2026 on a year-over-year basis. Consumer Edge reporting indicated that U.S consumers were “experiencing heavy exposure to essential-cost inflation and weak wage growth” (via Chain Store Age).
