The conflict in Iran, and the resulting gas price hikes, may be harming U.S. small businesses. Various entrepreneurs have been cited in reports saying as much, with meal delivery service operator John Andrews stating “The economy is killing me on food prices. And gas prices are tough now, too. It’s kind of a double whammy. I’m working just as hard as ever, but I’m losing ground here” (via CNN Business).
Walmart is rolling out digital shelf labels on a company-wide basis within the next year. Currently, less than half of Walmart’s ~5,200 U.S. locations feature the technology, which “help ensure errors do not occur, cut down on paper waste and remove friction from everyday tasks while keeping pricing transparent and consistent” the company stated (via Chain Store Age).
Trader Joe’s has recalled nearly 37 million pounds of food due to concerns of glass being present in the products. Frozen chicken and pork fried rice dishes, ramen products, and shu mai dumpling products are among those being recalled (via NBC News).
Target will be opening its 2,000th location this month, in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. The news comes as the retailer is engaged in a significant turnaround effort helmed by new CEO Michael Fiddelke (via Axios).
Amazon will be laying off an undisclosed number of workers within its robotics unit, with estimates coming in at around the 100 jobs range. “Following a recent review, we’ve made the difficult decision to eliminate a relatively small number of robotics roles,” an Amazon spokesperson said (via GeekWire).
